从事防灾减灾及边坡工程的应用基础研究。长江学者特聘教授、重庆英才创新领军人才。主持基金项目等20余项,其中国家重点研发计划课题(1项)、国家自然科学基金(5项)。在国内外重要学术期刊上发表论文180篇,其中SCI论文83篇,EI论文26篇,出版英文专著2部。
